Review on The Ivory Tower
'Not for the faint-hearted' is one view of the Ivory Tower. The setting for such daring gastronomic adventures is a high-ceilinged room on the first floor of a Victorian building, suitably adorned with contemporary canvases and eclectic artefacts; crescent moon and star motifs on each table add to the effect.
The five-course dinner menu changes each day, and iconoclastic ideas come thick and fast. You might find blackened swordfish paired with banana ketchup, hot-smoked salmon served with lemon geranium sauce, and kumquats cooked in Rioja. Much of the kitchen's output relies on supplies of organic and wild produce, and meals are rounded off with sweet delights such as dark chocolate 'silk' cake with liquorice and coffee. Home-baked breads are outstanding, sushi nights crop up from time to time, and the food is supported by an equally eclectic 50-bin wine list.
