Review on Tillmouth Park
Built in 1882 with stones from nearby Twizel Castle, this magnificent late-Victorian country mansion is set in 15 acres of mature grounds and woodland beside the River Till (renowned for its fishing).
Aperitifs are served in the galleried lounge; diners then proceed to the spacious panelled Library dining room, where the food depends on a network of trusted local suppliers who provide the kitchen with everything from eggs to honey. Menus are fixed-price, three-course affairs in the modern British mould of grilled goats' cheese with pickled walnuts, pork tenderloin with rösti, cabbage, apricot and mustard sauce, then blackcurrant mousse with mulled wine sorbet.
You can also eat more casually in the bistro.
