Review on Boulevard Brasserie
Boulevard Brasserie, a bastion of the Covent Garden restaurant scene since 1991 and owner Ian Shaw's private and public passion, this independent brasserie just keeps on rolling. It's a real godsend for culture vultures and other visiting nearby attractions including The Royal Opera house.
In fine weather the ground floor doors are flung open and the whole frontage becomes a real al fresco haven. Candles are lit in the evening and if you are sitting upstairs there are French windows overlooking Wellington Street and beyond.
Brasserie cooking of the old school is on offer, from Caesar salad, moules marinière and duck liver parfait to crème brûlée and chocolate torte. In between expect braised lamb shank with wild mushrooms and parsley mash, steaks with French fries and - in more modern vein - seared tuna with Mediterranean vegetables and pesto. Wash it all down with affordable wines from France and beyond.
