Review on Locks Brasserie
Locks Brasserie opened at the end of 2010 in the popular Portobello district of Dublin, located on the corner of Windsor Terrace and Bloomfield Avenue with an idyllic setting by the Grand Canal. The restaurant is operated by Sebastien Masi and Kirsten Batt, the same duo who own the successful Pearl Brasserie. Locks Brasserie welcomes guests in a warm and elegant atmosphere with a cosy open fire, all presented in a palette of warm neutrals and natural elements.
Heading the kitchen is Karl Breen, who honed his culinary craft at highly regarded restaurants such as Knockranny House, Gregans Castle and The Greenhouse. The finest ingredients are carefully sourced for his meticulously prepared French dishes that are full of exciting flavours.
Open the slate with a starter of sweetcorn veloute, trompette de la mort and black truffle duxelles or choose the Blue Fin tuna, avocado, soy gel, pickled mooli, kohlrabi and lotus root. Main courses usher in quail and foie gras, almond fluid gel, cherry, sweet potato fondant and cepes or pan fried hake, ginger blanquette, crab mezzaluna, baby leeks and wilted spinach. Desserts are equally inviting ideas with a classic creme brulee of maybe banana parfait, chocolate soil, banana caviar and peanut butter ice-cream. French varietals dominate the wine list, but there is also a a selection from other regions and grapes, with a good choice by the glass.
