Review on The Crown & Greyhound

Known locally as 'The Dog', this fine old Victorian pub was built to replace two local hostelries (you've guessed it!) and it has become a firm favourite with Dulwich locals and visitors to the area. Inside it still retains many original features, including archways, panelling, lamps and ornate plasterwork in the bar.

The dining room and conservatory at the back open out onto the highly popular family garden, which has its own boules pitch and super-size versions of board games; also look at the murals on the fence painted by local school children. Food is served throughout the day and it's a no-nonsense choice running from sandwiches to beef Wellington, via salads, pasta and burgers.

Arrive early if you fancy the bestselling Sunday carvery, because the pub doesn't take bookings. Drinkers are well served with real ales and an excellent selection of Continental fruit and wheat beers.

    Most enjoyable outing

My close friends and I were celebrating a birthday and included in the party was my aunt of 85 who would've been extremely uncomfortable if the prices had been visible. We visited the restaurant a few days prior to coming and the very attentive waitress, Assi, took note of what we were saying. On Saturday when we arrived our table was ready and on each place was a menu without the prices! My aunt who's as sharp as a razor didn't even notice there were no prices on the menu. She took it as natural! Then when we decided to indulge in a dessert there appeared dessert menu without the prices! As a result we were all completely relaxed and enjoyed the wonderful service, excellent food and great atmosphere.
PS The booking was in my friend's name, Mavis Adenekan.
