Review on The Red Lion
The Red Lion is the quintessential rural pub complete with thatched roof nestling in the the tranquil village of East Haddon, just eight miles from Northampton. This golden Northamptonshire sand stone building features a cosy pub, a casual dining area and the main dining room with French doors leading out to the pretty walled garden, where you can dine in the summer months.
The Red Lion is co-owned by Nick Bonner and local boy Adam Grey who left Rhodes Twenty Four in September 2011, having maintained a Michelin star for over 10 years. Adam who has now joined D & D's Skylon has appointed Anthony Horn as Head Chef to oversee the kitchen and together they have created a raft of culinary delights. The emphasis is on British food with a serious local and regional input and a feel for the seasons. Look for grilled sardines and tomatoes on toast with sage pesto or leek, parsley and Montgomery cheddar risotto amongst the starters, with main courses of slow roast pork belly, creamed butternut squash and Autumn greens or grilled mackerel, apple and potato salad, Worcestershire sauce dressing. Desserts run the gamut from apple tart with clotted cream ice cream to a Black Forest cheesecake with chocolate ice cream.
Should you wish to prolong your stay, The Red Lion has five cosy bedrooms in the pub, as well as a two bedroomed cottage in the lovely grounds.
