Review on Temple Gate Hotel, Legends Restaurant
Built on the site of a nineteenth-century Convent of Mercy in a cobblestone courtyard just off the centre of medieval Ennis, this likeable hotel has been owned and run by John Madden for more than 30 years. Many original Victorian Gothic features have been retained including the old chapel, which is now tailor-made for weddings and banquets.
Legends Restaurant provides a casual, high-ceilinged setting for modern international dishes along the lines of warm black pudding salad, herb-crusted rack of Burren lamb, medallions of monkfish with shrimp and saffron timbale, and desserts like mint and vanilla pannacotta mousse. Alternatively, Preachers Pub serves food and drinks all day, and is known for its regular Irish music sessions.
