Review on Marco's New York Italian
Marco's New York Italian opened in May 2013 in the English village of Clyst Honiton, just five miles from the historical city of Exeter and minutes from the M5 Motorway. The 92-cover restaurant is situated next to the Hampton by Hilton hotel which is ideally located adjacent to Exeter airport, the home of Flybe.
The family-style eatery has a cosy bistro style, featuring floor to ceiling windows, chequerboard flooring and linen clad tables with contrasting red gingham napkins. Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has created a menu inspired by his Italian heritage, offering traditional Italian classics with a modern twist and New York influences.
The kitchen draws on local supplies wherever possible for its American-Italian dishes that includes fresh pastas, handmade pizzas, steaks, ribs and seafood. Other options worth considering are starters such as garlic and lemon prawns with toasted rustic bread or maybe the antipasto misto, designed for sharing it comes with melon, prosciutto, chargrilled asparagus, salami milano, buffalo mozzarella, tomato bruschetta and olives. Main courses take in chicken stuffed with mozzarella and tomato, wrapped in prosciutto and lazy fries or sea bass, 'aqua pazza' with tomatoes, olives, capers, fennel and new potatoes or simply grilled with lemon. To finish there's panna cotta or Bongo bongo, profiteroles filled with ice cream and Italian candied fruit with hot chocolate sauce.
To accompany the menu there's a concise wine list, classic cocktails and Italian beers like Peroni Nastro Azzuro, as well as milk-shakes.
