Review on Magnolia at Sudbury House
Sudbury House is a Grade II listed building set in nine acres of beautiful grounds in the charming market town of Faringdon, located on the edge of the Cotswolds between Oxford and Swindon. In 2019 their three-AA-rosette Restaurant 56 became the venue for afternoon tea and private events, with the Magnolia their more informal restaurant taking centre stage.
The kitchen delivers a crowd-pleasing menu using carefully sourced local and seasonal ingredients. Diners have the choice of cold, warm and large plates along the lines of Cornish crab cocktail, caraway crackers and mango or a warm venison sausage roll with spiced date puree. Among the large plates look for braised ox cheek, bourguignon sauce and creamed potato or pan-fried sea bass, saag aloo and lemongrass sauce. There's also a selection of dishes including pizzas from their pizza oven and grill, and when it comes to desserts who could resist a warm stout and chocolate sponge, paired with cocoa and brown sugar sauce and vanilla ice cream.
The wine list offers a splendid choice, carefully chosen from around the globe with seven options available by the glass. Sudbury House has 49 stylish rooms should you wish to extend your stay and explore the surrounding countryside.
