Review on La Tavernetta
La Tavernetta has been famous in Folkestone for almost 50 years and La Tavernetta remains a strong favourite with Folkestonians and visitors alike, viva La Tavernetta. It stands in a quiet location within easy reach of the sea and is greatly liked for its engaging personal service and good-value Italian food of the old school.
The menu celebrates traditional trattoria cooking, with a long list of starters taking in everything from bresaola and Parma ham with melon to baked snails stuffed with garlic and parsley. Pasta features lots of old faithfuls such as cannelloni and tagliatelle tossed with cream and Parmesan, while main courses embrace everything from fillet of sole in white wine, prawn and mushroom sauce to saltimbocca alla romana and sirloin steak with red wine and mushrooms.
Chef's specials add some extra choice - perhaps fettuccine with seafood, roast rack of lamb with herbs and rosemary or skate genobloise with capers, lemon juice and white wine - while desserts include the theatrical pleasures of crêpes Suzette and zabaglione. On Sunday, there's a very affordable three-course lunch menu including a couple of roasts from the carvery.
