Review on The Moorings Bistro, Moorings Hotel

Peacefully situated beside Neptune's Staircase on banks of the Caledonian Canal, the Moorings plays up to its nautical connections, and also makes the most of its splendid panoramic views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor.

Pride of place goes to The Moorings Bistro where menus are built solidly around supplies of Scottish produce: typical offerings have included smoked salmon and crab terrine, roast chump of local lamb with roasted vegetables, and desserts such as raspberry cranachan.

You can eat less formally in the split-level Upper Deck Bar with its wood panelling, stained glass and great views, and in the evening it's worth venturing down into the Mariners Cellar Bar for a casual tipple.
