Review on The Seafood Bar @ Kirwan's
Superbly situated in one of Galway's last remaining medieval lanes, this landmark bistro-style restaurant is tastefully done out in rustic autumnal shades, with bare pine tables, tiled floors and blinds at the windows.
Lunch brings an assortment of crowd-pleasers including Irish Brie crostini, Cumberland sausage with champ and onion gravy or vegetarian burgers with broad bean mash and mango relish. Evening visitors can choose from a more eclectic assortment that might feature mille-feuille of fresh crab, sautéed monkfish and roast breast of Silver Hill duck with baked celeriac and Cassis reduction.
To conclude, fine Irish cheeses line up alongside desserts such as banana and ginger tarte Tatin with honey ice cream. The well-chosen global wine list includes some particularly appetising stuff from France.
