Review on La Locanda
La Locanda is an award winning Italian restaurant nestled in the charming rural village of Gisburn in the Ribble Valley and it is owned by an Italian husband and wife team Maurizio and Cinzia Bocchi. They have converted the small stone building into a cottage style restaurant, with a flag-floor and wooden beams for a delightful rustic feel and he is in charge of the kitchen while she takes care of front of house.
They import the best Italian products for their menu and Cinzia will travel back to Italy several times a year to source quality ingredients. Local Lancashire produce including much from Gisburn is also used in the cooking, fruit and vegetables come from Jigsaw Environmental, a community enterprise set up to help Gisburn's finances following the Foot and Mouth outbreak. Among the starters choose king prawns cooked with butter and garlic or oven baked pears wrapped in Bresaola before mains of Ribble Valley pork fillet topped with Prosciutto di Parma and Fontina cheese served with sautéed organic cabbage or a whole sea-bass cooked with white wine, cherry tomatoes, garlic , chilli and parsley served with mix salad. Lovely home-made desserts round things off nicely with zabajone ice cream covered with a touch of Advocaat liqueur and an espresso coffee with whipped cream or pannacotta served with fruits of the forest or a warm chocolate sauce. There is an interesting wine list from small, dedicated quality producers from various regions of Italy.
