Review on Bel & The Dragon

The Bel & The Dragon, a beautifully renovated 'dormant' church is the stunning location for this pub/eating house - one of a group of seven, with branches in Cookham, Windsor, Reading, Churt, Kingsclere and Odiham. 'I simply love the place,' enthused one Mobile Food Guide user: 'the building is amazing, and the upstairs seating area is great for people watching.'

'The menu is huge, as are the portions, ' observed our correspondent, and it's a real cook's tour through the global gastro pub repertoire. Among the delights on offer, there might be Thai-marinated beef tempura tossed in an oriental salad with oyster sauce, char-grilled ostrich 'Wellington' with watercress purée and celeriac croquette, and whole boneless sea bass 'en papillote' with roasted peppers and black olives.

The pub's name isn't a misprint: it refers to one of the books of 'The Apocrypha' - namely 'Bel and the Dragon'. Learn more about it by perusing the series of illustrations that adorn the bar.
