Review on Barbaracca

An Italian stalwart within the charming setting of a characterful old building off Godalming High Street, La Luna has morphed into Barbaracca. It re-opened in September 2015 after La Luna's owners decided to go for a new relaxed look and a menu reflecting their own Sicilian heritage of rustic family dishes. Decked out in a palette of blue and yellow with an open-plan décor, it has a sunny Mediterranean ambience, showcasing distressed pale woods, Victorian tiles, and hand-decorated vintage plates.

Using specially imported Sicilian produce, the kitchen also makes the most of the local larder with South Downs lamb appearing with rosemary jus, breaded pepper and hand cut chips. Cicchetti, Sicilian-style tapas perfect for sharing or as a starter feature dishes such as beef carpaccio, rocket and parmesan or calamari fritti. Elsewhere there's a good selection of pasta such as spaghetti cco sugu, Surrey beef and Shackleford pork bolognese or risotto ai fruitti di mare, prawn squid and mussel. When it comes to desserts there's pannacotta and fresh fruit or chocolate cannoli.

Children are made welcome and have their own menu, and there's a carefully thought out Italian wine list with plenty of options available by the glass.
