Review on Cook's Bar & Kitchen

Cook's Bar & Kitchen is located in the grounds of the country house Grange Manor Hotel in Grangemouth, Falkirk. Set in a 19th century coach house the restaurant has an informal and relaxed ambience with a stylish décor. The restaurant offers all day dining from 9.00am in the morning serving home cooked breakfast, through to lunch or a leisurely dinner in the evening. You are also welcome to pop in for a quick drink and cake or a light bite.

The kitchen is keen to use locally sourced ingredients for its dishes and you could choose from their dinner menu a starter of seared Highland scallops, pea puree and pancetta crumb or a smooth chicken liver parfait served with tomato chutney. Main courses take in breast of Gressingham duck, braised crispy leg, orange jam, and tender stem broccoli or paupiettes of sole rolled with smoked salmon and fresh spinach. There's a tempting array of desserts to finish with a popcorn crème brulee, honey glaze and popcorn crumble or a raspberry millefeuille, Amaretto cream and chocolate sauce.

There is a well crafted cocktail menu as well as an excellent wine list with 15 wines and champagnes by the glass.

    bad day at cooks

Visited frequently and always a good experience. Today was really bad. Had phoned in advance to make sure Sunday roast menu was still running and was advised it was. When we arrived we were told by one waiter that there was only one choice. Another waitress advised us that there was no longer a Sunday roast after being forced to order from the main menu we waited over 25 minutes for our meals which sadly were substandard. Mine was so salty I struggled to eat it. The portions were small and certainly did not reflect the price. Cooks have a great menu then they change it and that's where they fail. The restaurant was quiet today so no reason for our wait. The only reason we did not send the food back was the perceived wait for alternative dishes. Very disappointing experience. Apparently the manager thought there was too much choice on the Sunday roast menu so scrapped it. So sad as the restaurant was full when we last had it and it was excellent. Very tempted not to return.
