Review on La Grande Mare Hotel

Part of a leisure and resort complex that also includes a golf course, country club and health suite, this family-run hotel is surrounded by more than 100 acres of private grounds overlooking wooded hills and the sandy reaches of Vazon Bay.

Formal meals are served in the serene setting of the main restaurant, which boasts expansive views of the golf course. The kitchen uses fresh fish and locally grown vegetables for a menu that might take in herb-crusted Pont L'Evêque cheese with cranberry relish, seared fillet of sea bass with shellfish risotto, and char-grilled fillet steak with horseradish mash, broccoli and caramelised shallot jus. Flambéed desserts are a feature; otherwise conclude with dark chocolate crème brûlée or lemon and raisin cheesecake.

Less formal meals are also available in the new conservatory-style Café Grande Mare, and you can dine al fresco beside the pool when the sun shines.
