Review on The Fox
On the road between Harpenden and Luton Airport, the Fox is one of a small group of revamped and revitalised Home Counties' pubs with a contemporary attitude towards food and drink. The outside is unremarkable, but the interior has a touch of class with its smart lounge and dining areas, stylish lighting and modern fittings.
The menu follows suit, with sociable categories headed 'sharing plates' (tapas, meze, pizzete), 'little dishes' (scallops of the day, onion tart with Cashel Blue and rocket), 'leaves' (aka. salads), 'fired pizzas' and so on. Pasta might include rigatoni with smoked haddock, smoked Applewood cheese and spinach, while the 'stove/grill/rôtisserie' provides burgers with Swiss cheese, spit-roast chicken with lemon and garlic confit, and rump of lamb with chorizo mash and mint jelly.
Decent cheeses and familiar desserts round things off, there are draught and bottled beers to quench the thirst, plus a very respectable modern wine list including several by the glass.
