Review on Orchid Restaurant
Opened in 2001 in the basement of the Studley Hotel, the Orchid restaurant has established a reputation as one of the most assured Pan-Asian eateries in the region. Inside it strikes a contemporary oriental note, with dark lacquered tables, rattan bamboo steamers and Asian clay pots.
Head chef Kenneth Poon gained a Michelin star at the Dorchester's Oriental Restaurant some years ago and he oversees a culinary team with specialist skills from Japan, Thailand and beyond. The menu is a cook's tour of the Far East, and it works its way through Korean steamed dumplings, Japanese wasabi prawns, Thai red duck curry, beef tagalog from the Phillipines and more besides.
Special sushi and sashimi specialities are served on Tuesdays, and there's a family-friendly buffet on Sundays. The carefully assembled wine list has been tailored to the food, and there's the bonus of a full range of Alsatian wines from the Trimbach Estate.
