A favourite with Herne Hill locals, this box-like dining room get packed with customers enjoying consistently good ethnic food, although it's not a place for intimate chats. Space is at a premium and a few carved ornaments and a reclining Buddha are about as much exotic decoration as can be fitted in.

The menu offers a 60-dish package tour of the Far East, with stopovers in Thailand, Burma and Vietnam. There's enough to keep the traditionalists and novices satisfied without panicking (familiar names like satay and Singapore noodles all feature), but its pays to delve a little deeper. Experiment and you might find nuggets of mashed prawn meat on sugar cane sticks, chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, a Bangkok curry containing banana blossoms, and chilli-fried vegetables with green peppercorns. Finish with the refreshing flavour of mango and papaya sorbet.
