Review on Barnacles Restaurant
Formerly known as the Barn at Leicester Grange Farm, the building that houses Barnacles was originally fashioned from hand-made bricks and clay dug on site. In its current incarnation, it's a privately owned seafood restaurant set in lovely grounds overlooking a beautiful lake.
The kitchen offers all manner of intriguing piscine possibilities, from simple grilled Dover sole, cod or whole sea bass to seared scallops with black pudding and pea purée or sesame-crusted tuna with honey-glazed pak choi and sweet chilli dressing.
Lobsters, oysters and 'fruits de mer' receive special attention, and there's always something for meat eaters and vegetarians (think duck breast with Savoy cabbage, blackberry and port jus or wild mushroom and spinach pappardelle). Desserts include baked egg custard with apple and cinnamon compote, and there are plenty of fish-friendly whites on the international wine list.
