Review on The Hepworth
Situated in exhilarating walking country amid the rolling hills of the Holme Valley, The Hepworth puts on a contemporary show with its high-quality leather fittings, sumptuous cream and chocolate colour schemes.
Modern brasserie food is the kitchen's avowed aim and the repertoire embraces contemporary ideas like open ravioli of oxtail, roast cherry tomatoes and marjoram fondue as well as keeping the die-hards happy with fillet of haddock in Newcastle Brown Ale batter (with dill and caperberry crème fraîche on the side).
Other interesting possibilities might include local smoked venison with boudin blanc and raspberry vinaigrette, monkfish and butternut squash Thai curry, and ballotine of chicken stuffed with asparagus and morels. Lemon tart and dark chocolate brownie are typical desserts. Children have their own menu, and snazzy 'sandwiches' are available until 6.00pm (try piri-piri chicken with sweet cucumber relish and melted smoked Mozzarella).
