Review on Grill Room, New Drumossie Hotel
Enviably positioned on a hillside overlooking the Moray Firth – yet only 3 miles from the centre of Inverness – this Art Deco building has been impressively refurbished and now oozes country house style and luxury, with up-to-the-minute facilities.
The elegant mood spills over into the Grill Room restaurant, where Scottish ingredients are given a contemporary makeover. Seared Isle of Skye scallops might be accompanied by cucumber and vine tomato salsa, char-grilled medallions of Angus beef are paired with gâteau of roasted turnips and haggis, caramelised red onion marmalade and a Burgundy reduction, while roast fillet of salmon comes with a green asparagus spear risotto, white wine and herb emulsion.
Desserts could range from Belgian dark chocolate torte with black peppered strawberries and satsuma sorbet to caramelised slices of baby pineapple with coconut water ice and rum caramel sauce. The global wine list is a good match for the food.
