Review on Da Piero
Da Piero is a gem of a neighbourhood Italian restaurant situated on a quiet road in Irby Village and it is a real family affair with Piero and his son Alan manning the stoves, while his charming wife runs front of house. The simple décor is modern in style with pale walls, hardwood floors, well laid tables decorated with flowers and royal blue upholstered chairs.
Piero originally came from Sicily, so the authentic Italian cuisine features many dishes from this lovely island. Although many of the ingredients come direct from Italy, local produce is also carefully sourced for the well thought out menu. To start try tuna tartare using the highest quality Sashimi grade tuna which is served with rocket, tomato, a slice of lemon and a small jug of balsamic vinegar or peperone ripieno di carne, a pepper stuffed with minced steak flavoured with garlic herbs and spices. Main courses follow the theme with a classic Italian Veal ossobuco with garlic spinach or swordfish with salmoriglio. To finish how about semifreddo al cioccolato, a scrumptious rich home made chocolate dessert or a classic Italian tiramisù. There is a reasonable priced wine list featuring wines from Italy and Sicily. At the end of the evening chef Piero quite often visits each table to ensure that you have had a pleasurable time.
