Review on Elephant Royale
A terrace overlooking Greenwich and The Cutty Sark is one feature of this lavish Thai restaurant, resplendently decked out with exotic plants and greenery, a wooden bridge over a carp pond and a bamboo hut bar.
An extensive 90-dish menu (plus extras for vegetarians) covers all aspects of the cuisine, from appetisers like fishcakes, deep-fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves and spicy crab claws, through soups and spicy salads to a big contingent of seafood including fillet of sea bass steamed with ginger, spring onions, black mushrooms and soy and 'The Sea on Fire' (a sizzling assortment set alight with Sambuca).
Also note the chef's specials, such as fragrant duck salad and Chiang Mai tiger prawns with coriander and chilli oil. Half a dozen curries, plus noodles and vegetables complete the picture. On Sundays there's a highly popular family buffet (children's meals half price). The original Elephant Royale is in Gant's Hill, Essex.
