Review on Highland Cottage
Highland Cottage is David and Jo Currie's pride and joy, a place that is very their own creation. It's also their house and home, as well as providing visitors with a very personal retreat.
It's small, it's tasteful, it's up-market in an understated way and it overlooks the island capital of Tobermory in the town's conservation area.
Fine food is served in the unstuffy atmosphere of the restaurant: seafood comes direct from the Tobermory boats, while meat is from well-hung West Highland stock. Four-course menus might kick off with Croig crab cakes with celeriac rémoulade or foie gras and chicken liver parfait with brioche and pear chutney before a soup (perhaps roasted cauliflower) or sorbet. Main courses make the best of prime local ingredients: roast saddle of Ardnamurchan venison is served with parsnip purée, sweet potatoes and juniper sauce, while roast West Coast monkfish gets a herb crust, couscous and red pepper sauce. To finish there might be chocolate and orange cheesecake or the oddly named 'parfait rusty nail'.
Closed late October to late March.
