Review on The Fishbourne
The Fishbourne is a charming 1930's inn nestled on the eastern bank of Wooton Creek, handily placed for Wightlink Fishbourne ferry terminal. The pub has undergone a stylish refurbishment program and is now part of the renowned Inns of Distinction collection and is sister to the award winning New Inn at Shalfleet, Newport. The smart contemporary dining room has polished wood tables with sleek black leather chairs set on modern wood flooring and the large pretty picture windows giving a light and airy feel. Comfy studded leather sofas and a cosy log fire add to the welcoming ambience.
The kitchen shows a real dedication to freshly prepared food using the very best of local ingredients. Expect classic pub favourites in the shape of a trio of island made sausages with mashed potato served with chef's special gravy or the 10oz Kemphill farm rump steak with chips, homemade onion rings, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. Given the location, there are plenty of piscine delights on the menu such as whole cracked crab salad or one of their popular deli boards for sharing, moules mariniere, IOW crab meat with aioli, half pint of shell-on prawns. Lunchtimes there are also sandwiches and baguettes and the main menu is bolstered by a blackboard of daily specials. There is an extensive wine list as well as superb ales to complement the food.
The Fishbourne has five tastefully decorated bedrooms if you are looking to stay over for a relaxing break.
