Review on Almeida Restaurant
Situated directly opposite the Almeida Theatre, this branch of D & D London offers modern French food in the heart of Islington. The interior comprises a large square room decked out in a palette of neutral colours with large contemporary pictures on the walls.
The open-to-view kitchen is a hive of activity, with Head Chef Tommy Boland delivery dishes in the shape of grilled Cornish mackerel, potato salad, samphire, oyster, sorrel and grain mustard, followed by a main course of braised ox cheek, parsnip purée, creamed potatoes, glazed carrots and red wine or pan fried stone bass, pumpkin, Jerusalem artichoke gratin, sage and pickled walnuts. When it comes to desserts there's cinnamon and vanilla poached pear, almond and white chocolate or clementine posset, rhubarb and brioche beignet.
The bar is perfect for a pre or post dinner drink or if you are visiting the theatre, a quick drink in the interval. Featuring a unique 'Wine Wall', a selection of tempting bar snacks and a seasonal cocktail list incorporating fresh herbs and infusions grown in Chef Tommy's 'urban garden'.
