Review on The Crown

In a rather upmarket Barnsbury backwater, this bright, airy gastropub occupies a Grade-II listed building, with an impressive intricate 'island' bar, plenty of trademark light oak panelling, cornices and etched glass.

Char-grilled sausages and mash, casseroles and special burgers are a feature, but the kitchen also turns its hand to more ambitious stuff, including – perhaps – open scallop and asparagus ravioli with chive cream or fillet of pork with Savoy cabbage, bacon and fondant potato. There are some pretty serious wines too.

The Crown is hugely popular for its Sunday roasts, but booking is essential.
