Review on The Moorings Hotel
Situated at the foot of ancient Mont Orgueil Castle beside Gorey harbour (now a haven for leisure craft wanting to drop anchor), this long-standing hotel has established a solid reputation with locals and visitors alike.
The location ensures that fresh fish and crustacea are in plentiful supply, and gargantuan platters of 'fruits de mer' (for two') are one of the star turns in the intimate restaurant. In addition, the menu promises Chancre crab cakes with sweet chilli sauce, La Rocque oysters, grilled filled of Jersey plaice meunière and salmon en croûte. Alternatively pick something meaty, such as carpaccio of beef, roast rack of lamb with rosemary jus or fillet steak with green peppercorn sauce. To finish there are desserts from the trolley, as well as crêpes suzette and zabaglione prepared at the table.
