Part-and-parcel of the Headfort Arms, but run as a totally independent set up, the Vanilla Pod is reached via its own entrance the foyer. Inside, light oak furnishings, bar wood tables and recessed lighting create a contemporary mood in sharp contrast to the prevailing traditional style of the hotel itself.
Plates of antipasti are great to share as a starter, although the choice extends to shredded duck samosas with plum chutney, smoked salmon and marinated shrimp salad with tangerine dressing, and goujons of cod in Heineken lager batter.
Main courses are equally diverse, stretching to baked chicken in spiced Caribbean jerk marinade, wild chanterelle risotto and herb-crusted fillet of hake with aubergine puree, lemon and chive butter sauce. Char-grills are also popular and there are interesting desserts to round things off. Wine nights and jazz are a special attraction.
