Review on Restaurant Bosquet
Set in an unobtrusive terraced house on the main Warwick Road, Restaurant Bosquet continues draw an enthusiastic crowd with its special brand of hospitality. Bernard and Jane Lignier have been in residence here since 1981, and they run the show with great personal affection.
Inside, it feels rather like someone's front room, with dark wood floors, silk curtains and leather chairs. Bernard hails from the southwest of France - home of big-hearted dishes - and his food is true to its roots. Escalope of duck foie gras might be coated in pain d'epices and served with a sauce of sweet wine and raisins, while three-week matured fillet of beef could appear with classic green peppercorn sauce and chips cooked in goose fat.
Fish and game also show up in the form of - say - spicy crab salad with cucumber, avocado and tomato salsa or saddle of venison on parsnip purée with blackcurrant and game sauce, while desserts are old standards like lemon tart or chocolate gâteau spiked with Grand Marnier. The extensive, all-French wine list naturally includes some excellent regional bottles from the South West such as Jurançon, Madiran and Cahors.
