Review on Gaby's Seafood Restaurant
A seafood restaurant of the old school, Gaby's still entertains the crowds with its blend of affable warmth and good food. A fire burns in the hearth, there are drinks at the bar, and the dining room (down a few steps) is equally inviting with its brick and wood and maritime curios.
Lobsters from the tank are the stars of the show – often served with a creamy sauce laced with cognac – but there's much more besides. The gargantuan Kerry shellfish platter takes some beating and chef/proprietor Gert Maes also conjures up tempura of prawns, wild Atlantic salmon in various guises, monkfish wrapped in Parma ham and haddock cooked with white wine; there are also steaks and lamb for meat eaters.
To finish, crème brûlée and comforting apple and raspberry crumble are reckoned to be unmissable. The extensive wine list offers ample choice from around the globe.
