Review on Black Bull Hotel

The Black Bull started life as a simple village inn serving the needs of locals and travellers, but these days it puts on an impressive show as an elegantly appointed but unostentatious family-run hotel within easy reach of Glasgow, Edinburgh and – of course – Loch Lomond.

When it comes to eating, there are lots of possibilities and options right through the day. For light, casual meals, try the stylish bistro with its comfortable purple chairs and booths: here the menu promises things like chunky smoked haddock broth, salmon with chive mash and corn-fed chicken filled with Stornoway black pudding.

Afternoon tea is something of an institution at the Black Bull, but the main event is dinner in the Poachers Restaurant. Sophisticated modern cuisine is the order of the day, with dishes along the lines of a tartare of wild and farmed salmon with crème fraîche and lime zest, beef fillet with rich Dunsyre blue cheese mousse and port jus, and - to conclude – hot chocolate soufflé dotted with cherries.
