Review on Cerutti's
Opened in 1974, the Cerutti family's celebrated restaurant is one of Hull's landmarks and continues to please the crowds with its distinctive brand of old-school fish cookery. The place stands on the old pier, overlooking the River Humber and within easy reach of the docks.
Bright shades of orange and crisp white linen cloths set the tone in the convivial dining room, and the menu stays in the familiar world of fishcakes with herb sauce, medallions of monkfish tempura batter, place véronique and baked salmon in pastry with sultanas and ginger. There are steaks for meat fans and risottos for vegetarians.
Monthly specials offer a touch of variety in the shape of - say - grilled sardine fillets with spring onion and potato salad or steamed haddock with asparagus and poached egg. The global wine list has a decent selection of fish-friendly whites. A sister restaurant, Cerutti 2, is on Station Square, Beverley.
