Review on The Grouse and Claret
The gourmandising name actually refers to a trout-fishing fly, which is apt since this family-run restaurant-with-rooms stands in 40 acres of lush wild meadows, complete with four, trout-filled 'lochans'. It's a blissfully peaceful location surrounded by the Lomond and Ochil Hills, yet only a couple of minutes' drive from J6 of the M90.
Meals are served in a spacious conservatory overlooking the grounds, and the kitchen takes full account of local produce. Seasonal game is a speciality of the house, along with local seafood including lobsters and crayfish. To finish there are home-baked gateaux and desserts, plus other goodies like shortbread.
The whole place has developed into a self-contained complex including an art gallery as well as a fishery; monthly oriental banquets are a big attraction, and there are regular jazz and theatrical evenings, too.
