Review on Souter's Inn

Built on the site of the old schoolhouse where Robert Burns went to school, and named after one of the poet's most colourful characters, Souter's Inn is part of a local regeneration project involving retail units, a coffee house and a whisky shop.

The whole building (formerly the Shanter Hotel) has been completely refurbished inside and out - including a smart new thatched roof - and it is very much a local success story with a family-friendly attitude and one eye on the tourists and golfers using nearby Turnberry.

Hungry visitors have an extensive menu to choose from, with lots of Scottish favourites (Cullen skink, haggis with neeps 'n tatties, grilled liver and bacon with fruitie pudding) as well as platters of Italian cured meats, macaroni cheese, lamb curry and spiced salmon with Asian coleslaw. Burgers, steaks and salads complete the savoury picture, and there are lots of puds to round it off.

    An excellent first visit

We were staying in the area and passed through the village. We were particularly taken by the looks of this thatched restaurant/pub. We returned that night and had a lovely family meal. The food was fantastic and the staff friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed every course. The party included 3 year old to well seasoned and all were impressed. The only small negative was a group of young staff standing at the till not following up the chef's call for service which meant a slight delay with our side dishes.

    60th birthay

I was looking forward to a family meal for 60th birthday.
Arrived on time as per booking to find table not ready and very unwelcoming Man with unpleasant look on his face. No welcome smile and very poor manner, we all were taken aback by this unfortunate manner.
Would come again but just hope your assistant has taken some happy pills!
