Review on Fifth Floor
A gilt-edged gastronomic Aladdin's cave complete with shelves and displays of goodies, a wine shop, an ultra-cool bar and sushi joint. The Fifth Floor also sports an equally sleek, oval-shaped restaurant with a domed, faux-skylight ceiling, cool Mies van der Rohe chairs and fibre-optic lighting that changes colour to suit the mood.
The kitchen feeds the foodie faithful with a cavalcade of fashionable dishes bristling with contemporary flavours and ingredients. Organic Shetland cod is served with poached egg, piperade and baby spinach, saddle of new season's lamb is accompanied by pickled lamb's tongue and rose harissa jus, while roast breast of Black Leg chicken is pointed up with Sauternes jus. Steak tartare is also available for the die-hards. As for desserts, think chocolate fondue for two or blackcurrant-poached peach with lemon verbena ice cream.
There's also a weekly 'Market Menu' based around seasonal ingredients and produce available from the store's Foodmarket. The superb wine list is thrilling collection of bottles from around the globe: own-label house selections are just the ticket unless you want to splash out and explore some of the more expensive vintages.
