Review on The Rib Room, Jumeirah Carlton Tower
The Rib Room opened in 1961 on the ground floor of the Carlton Tower Hotel, this lush restaurant continues to play to a well-heeled international crowd with its take on traditional British food combined with top-drawer service and live piano music every evening.
The Rib Room has been subject to an extensive refurbishment by Martin Brudnizki, one of the most sought after interior designers, who has brought this iconic restaurant into the 21st century, while paying homage to its 50 year history. Although it is a fine setting for breakfast, it really comes in to its own during lunch and dinner. Prime Aberdeen Angus rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding is the star turn, ahead of oysters, seasonal game and dishes ranging from chicken liver parfait with apple jelly or roast pears with ham, Stilton and honey dressing to marmalade brioche bread-and-butter pudding. The wine list is awesome, but brace yourself for a heart-fluttering bill at the end of it all.
A succulent 'healthy cuisine' buffet is available in the Club Room, high up on the ninth-floor of the hotel; alternatively, head for the Chinoiserie in the lobby, where a harpist plays and visitors are treated to afternoon delights aplenty.
