Review on Sultan of Lancaster
Indian food meets Islamic art in this highly unusual set-up, housed in a former Methodist chapel. The main focus is a genuine and exquisitely decorated restaurant – complete with a glorious ceiling, ornate pillars and hand-crafted screens – where customers order from an evening menu in the onion pakora / chicken tikka masala mould.
The Sultan of Lancaster also incorporates a contemporary art gallery offering an insight in the culture and traditions of Islam. Tacked onto this is a Food Court, comprising a daytime café and delicatessen that is highly popular with shoppers, students and business people. Alcohol isn't allowed on the premises but well-made, refreshing lassi more than compensates.
