Review on Britannia Spice
The name refers to the fact that this award-winning Indian sits on Ocean Drive in Leith overlooking the Royal Yacht Britannia. The dining room has been appropriately decked out with a few maritime artefacts, but it's the food that really counts.
On the menu you will find a broad range of Bangladeshi and North Indian regional specialities ranging from shorisha bata golda chingri (king prawns cooked with mustard paste, green chillies and yoghurt) and shatkora gosht (lamb cooked with the rind of a Bangladeshi citrus fruit, Kaffir lime leaves and Bengal chillies) to tandoori garlic chicken.
The restaurant is also renowned for its forays into Nepalese and Thai cuisine: from the Himalayas come momo (steamed dumplings filled with mixed meat and spices) and rui khumbi (spiced trout with mushrooms, green chillies and fresh herbs), while Thailand is represented by green chicken curry, stir-fried beef with spices and basil, and more besides.
