Review on Swinfen Hall Hotel, Four Seasons Restaurant
One hundred acres of rolling parkland including a deer park, woods and wild hay meadows surround this lavishly appointed Georgian mansion a couple of miles from Lichfield. Inside it is eye-poppingly sumptuous, with stucco ceilings, intricate carvings and frescoes, oil paintings and antiques at every turn.
The Four Seasons restaurant doesn't disappoint, thanks to splendid oak panelling and original Grinling Gibbons carvings. Home-reared venison from the estate is starting to appear on the menu, along with local organic pork and produce from the hotel's walled garden. Expect luxury-laden dishes such as ravioli of roasted foie gras and sautéed sweetbreads or marinated wild boar with spicy apple compote and caramelised shallots, followed by desserts such as banana tarte Tatin. The extensive wine list includes many bottles imported direct from selected vineyards.
