Review on The Lime Tree Restaurant
Restaurants don't come much simpler or more honest than Stanley and Maria Matthews' cosy converted front room in a terraced house. Furnishings are modest, but the place is valued for Maria's infectiously charming service and Stanley's unflashy food.
The menu may not be cutting-edge stuff, but there's plenty to enjoy in dishes like caramelised onion and goats' cheese tart, osso buco made with shin of Irish beef and cocido (Spanish-style duck stew with chick peas, chorizo and chilli). Seafood Thermidor is a bestseller and other piscine offerings might include homemade Malin Head crab cakes or baked suprême of salmon wrapped in Parma ham with soy and honey dressing. Finish with something homely like lemon curd cheesecake or steamed orange marmalade sponge with custard.
