Review on Champany Inn
Seductive accommodation is one of this superior inn's great assets, but its reputation also lies with its excellent restaurant, where beef is order of the day and has been for more than 25 years. Champany occupies a collection of whitewashed, red-roofed cottages (some dating back to the sixteenth century) and is Clive and Anne Davidson's pride and joy.
Curtain raisers come in the shape of Loch Gruinart oysters, hot smoked salmon, Highland black pudding served with onion marmalade or perhaps traditional Cullen Skink. The star is Aberdeenshire beef, hung for at least 3 weeks: choose your steak from the chilled counter which has the most amazing selection. Before grilling the meat is dipped in a special 'secret recipe' sauce to seal in all the flavours. Non-meat eaters need not fear because there is a good representation from the maritime world to choose from. Bring down the curtain with something from the weekly changing dessert menu.
The wine list is packed with hundreds of gems from just about every corner of the world. There are realistically priced quaffable wines too, as well as plenty of stuff to dream on. You can also dine more affordably in the nearby Chop & Ale House.
