Review on Fonseca
Fonseca is an award winning delicatessen and restaurant set on the edge of the central shopping zone and business quarter in Stanley Street Quarter in Liverpool. The restaurant changed its name to Fonseca from Delifonseca to avoid confusion after its big brother, this years Good Food Guide restaurant for the North West winner, opened in 2010 at Brunswick Dockside.
A popular spot for brisk lunches and private afternoon business meetings, the evenings see a change of pace when it is transformed into a cosy candlelit restaurant, a favourite haunt for pre-theatre diners. Ingredients are carefully sourced for its blackboard menu that features at least two vegetarian options, two fish and a further six to eight main courses, as well as platters, salads and classic hot deli sandwiches.
Options worth considering are starters like rolled pigs head with salsa verde or Scottish salmon whisky gravadlax served with seaweed tartar. Main courses could offer steamed Scottish venison pudding with wild mushrooms, braised red cabbage and chunky chips or darne of hake, stuffed with salt cod and chorizo paired with ratatouille and new potatoes with lemon and saffron. To finish there's a lovely choice of desserts such as pear tarte tatin with a rich muscovado toffee sauce and Cheshire Farm vanilla ice cream or baked Baileys and white chocolate cheesecake with cream.
