Review on Ziba at The Racquet Club
Ziba has been a big name in Liverpool for many years, first in its converted car showroom premises just off Chinatown and now in the Victorian splendour of the refurbished Racquet Club opposite the Liver Building.
Full meals are served in a capacious dining room dominated glittering chandeliers and a massive reproduction of an Italian Renaissance painting. Here you might be offered potted Orkney beef with brown sauce or pan-fried scallops with pressed ham hock and fennel confit to start, before slow-roast Goosnargh duck breast with clapshot, Savoy cabbage and date jus or roast cod with smoked salmon and capers, cauliflower purée and curried shallot cream. To finish, look for banana bread-and-butter pudding with malt ice cream or nutmeg and apple brûlée with doughnut fingers.
A separate menu is also available in the bar, featuring things like crab cakes with sweet chilli sauce, smoked bacon and pea risotto and the Racquet Club sandwich with fries. The wine list is worth serious consideration, with its excellent selection of affordable and smarter bottles.
