Review on Watkins Restaurant at The Empire Hotel
Built in 1854 as part of Llandudno's first block of Victorian shops, this imposing building with its porticoed facade stands next door to what was the town's first bank. These days, it still displays a touch of grandeur and opulence, although the hotel (a family-run business) has moved with the times and now offers high-tech business facilities as well as beauty treatments and an indoor swimming pool.
Formal meals are served in the elegantly appointed Watkins Restaurant - once a wine merchant's, but now the setting for accessible food that mixes home-gown with international influences. Diners can choose from the daily fixed-price menu or dip into the line-up of chef's suggestions. Depending on your preference, you might kick off with wild mushroom risotto or smoked chicken and peach salad, before poached salmon with citrus and prawn sauce, fish pie or Thai beef salad with chilli pickle.
