Review on The Angel Restaurant
The Angel Restaurant is situated in the picturesque village of Long Crendon, surrounded by thatched cottages and period architecture in the beautiful countryside of Buckinghamshire. The charming 16th century coaching inn is full of character with low ceilings, exposed beams, original wattle and daub walls, inglenook fireplaces and simply dressed pine scrubbed tables. There is a bright and airy conservatory and a heated sun terrace where you may also choose to dine.
Chef patron is Trevor Bosch who proposes a menu featuring classic British dishes with a modern twist, fish dishes in particular show up well and feature on the daily specials blackboard. The seasonal menu could start with deep fried Cornish squid with sweet red pepper and chilli salsa on aioli dressing or crispy Aylesbury duck and bacon salad with ginger and Hoi Sin dressing. Follow on with a main course of roast fillet of Sandy Lane pork wrapped in Parma ham on red onion tart tatin and apple mash with sage and cider sauce or fillet of Scotsgrove Beef on bubble and squeak with roast root vegetables and Burgundy sauce. Classic tempting desserts close the show with summer berry pudding with clotted cream and berry coulis or vanilla crème Brulee with honey roasted peaches and a shortbread biscuit.
There is a well travelled wine list carefully chosen by Trevor to compliment the dishes, with a good selection by the glass, together with well-kept cask ales and an excellent selection of single malt whiskies. There are stylish bedrooms available if you wish to extend your stay.
