Review on The Olive Tree
The Olive Tree opened its doors in July 2008 on the busy High Road of Loughton in Essex, ideally placed for shoppers to pop in for a leisurely meal or a pick you up cup of coffee. This family run business is distinguished by its wide frontage, with floor to ceiling windows that can be flung open during the summer months onto the terrace with its secluded hedges and two olive trees. The interior is light and modern, with a stylish décor featuring sparkling chandeliers and comfy leather seating set against simply laid wood tables.
The kitchen looks to the Mediterranean for inspiration with an emphasis on fresh local seasonal ingredients for their dishes. Kick off in true style with simply grilled Portuguese sardines drizzled with olive oil and rosemary or venison tortellini, fresh pasta filled with venison and served with a cream, brandy, wine and thyme sauce. When it comes to main courses there's grilled sea bass with roasted peppers, aubergines, garlic, olives, courgettes and new potatoes drizzled with an extra virgin olive oil, lemon and Corinthian aged vinegar jus or maybe choose the meze grill, a selection of lamb cutlets, chicken souvlaki, pork Souvlaki filled with Italian cured meats and traditional Greek sausage, served with hand cut chips. Close the show with a traditional tiramisu or crepe with banana Grand Marnier and chocolate sauce.
There's an International wine list to complement the food together with zingy cocktails, and look out for their special events where the restaurant features live music, wine tasting, a magician or a theme night.
