Review on The Bowl Inn
Parts of the stylish whitewashed Bowl Inn and Lilies Restaurant began life as monks' dwellings during the Middle Ages, and the present building in Lower Almondsbury became licensed premises in 1550. These days, it's a long-serving, family-run venue incorporating all the features of a traditional pub together with a cosy, well-appointed restaurant and accommodation.
The Bowl takes its name from the distinctive shape of the land surrounding the Severn Estuary - which can be seen from the inn and its popular grounds. Beams and country furniture set the tone in the Restaurant, where the menu works its way through local brawn and parsley terrine, slow-braised shoulder of lamb with glazed sweetbreads, potato and flageolet bean purée, grills and desserts such as chocolate St Emilion.
A full menu is also available in the bar, where the user-friendly repertoire covers baguettes, club sandwiches, pasta, grills and perennials such as beer-battered haddock and chips. Real ales and a good choice of carefully chosen wines complete the picture.
